Our Story
Our adventure started with a little Pygmy goat. Our family moved to the farm in 2000 a new home, new schools and new friends. Our daughter, Lyndsey then in the 5th grade. wanted a goat at the farm. Thumper a little pygmy wether was loved by everyone, more of a dog than a goat. Wanting to participate in 4-H that same daughter started with market goats. Her attachment and buckets of tears ended our market career after just two market goats! Her 4-H leader then suggested another option, She brought to us a lovely little spotted Nubian, Freckles, we began milking and fell in love,
After registering Freckles as a recorded grade doe we acquired a beautiful Nubian doe from Drake’s Dairy Farm, in West Jordan Utah. Nellie was sold to us due to her laminitis that needed the attention of a much smaller herd. She kidded our first ADGA registered kids on a beautiful day in April of 2004. In an effort to get her bred we bought a buck from Utopia Farms in Delta and brought home Enchantment another spotted Nubian Doe. Goat Math took over and today we have a herd that contains Nubians, Lamanchas, Oberhasli, Recorded Grades and last year 2024 we added a lovely Alpine. Our herd totals between 15 and 30 milkers (15 is our favorite number) 30 some babies and yearlings and a half dozen bucks. We dry lot feed because of our space limitations, going through about 61 tons of alfalfa and grass hay each year along with some 2,500lbs of grain.
Who knew that watching our first birthing, on a Sunday afternoon, as a family with the exclamation from our then 5 year old, “That was awesome!” would be the start of a love for dairy goats that we enjoy now with our children and grandchildren. We never imagined that dairy goats would become such an integral part of our family. We have never looked back we have enjoyed broadening our goat family with amazing people that we love and appreciate for their willingness to share genetics, knowledge and for mentoring us.
Over the years, we have learned a lot, and would like to thank all those who have mentored us and continue to mentor us as we keep learning and growing. Our love of goats has us as active members of the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) and all of the programs it offers. Along with being ADGA members we were one of the founding families of the Utah Dairy Goat Association (UDGA) and actively participate in helping put on 2 UDGA shows a year.
We participate in Linear Appraisal and in DHIA milk testing as well.
We love talking about goats and helping other goat enthusiasts learn more about goat care and management of goats. Please contact if you have any questions about our goats or goats in general.
Thanks,
The Garlick Family
